PVC STRAND
BIO-FILTER MEDIA
|
Of all the different types of media available on the market today, PVC strand media has been proven to the the most efficient for both its ability to provide massive surface areas for bacteria contact with the water and also its ability to be cleaned when necessary. Closed media materials such as plastic blocks, shot gun wads and others are almost impossible to clean because the particulate clogs all the pores and then is very difficult, if not impossible, to remove.
In a properly designed biofilter the water can be slowly moved through the stands containing the denitrifaction bacteria without restriction allowing 100% of the surface area bacteria colony to have access to the ammonia and nitrites.

|
PVC strand biofilter media from Burdette Industries works perfectly in both horizontal bio-filters and up-welling types. Providing a high surface area per cubic foot (Approximately 250 sq. ft.) strand media allows lots of room for easy water passage past the denitrifaction bacteria. When it is time for the media to be serviced it is easily removed from the

filter and gently washed down to remove solid particulate accumulation and then replaced, still charged with the bacteria for immediate resumption of the filters task of removing ammonia and nitrite.

BIO-BAGS |
 |
Bio-Bags from Burdette Industries are a good source of bio-filtration for small biofilters. By placing them on a screen or grating located in the bottom of the filter and bringing the effluent in under the screen and |
| allowing the water to rise up through the bags total bacterial filtration can be achieved. The big advantage of the bags is the ability to clean them periodically by just simply lifting the bag from the filter, placing on the floor or in a
sink basin and water them down and just gently squeeze them like a sponge.
Do this two or three times and then place them back in the filter. They are still charged with living bacteria but clean of solid particulate, and ready to continue their work. Bio-bags are 1 cubic foot per bag containing 250 square feet of surface area. They can be placed into a new system and be allowed to charge themselves which can take up to six weeks or you can add bacterial extract to each bag before loading and have biofiltration within one week of start-up.

NOTE: This media can be shipped in 1 cubic foot containers without the bags so you can just place it directly in your filter.
