Egeria Densa-Anacharis
(Elodea)

Zone 5-Most people are familiar with elodea for its most common use as an oxygenator for aquariums. Elodea grows as branch-like fronds from which short, narrow, pointed leaves sprout. Like water hyacinth, it requires some soil in the bottom of the pond. Also like the hyacinth, it will grow quickly and easily, forming jungles of growth that small fish can
hide in and eat. Elodea will flower, under good conditions. The blooms are white, and are approximately a quarter inch in diameter. Old growth, which becomes yellow and loses its leaves, can be pinched off to encourage new growth and blooming. Since this is a submerged plant, it survives light frosts without trouble. You may need to bring elodea inside during the winter.
